Adding CertClass to a phone's home screen

A home screen icon is a shortcut to a web page. On iPhone and iPad, tapping it opens the page full screen, without the browser's address bar, so it looks and feels like an app. There is nothing to download from the App Store or Google Play and nothing to update: the icon always loads the live page, so new classes, new prices, and roster changes are there the moment you save them. It works on iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets.

Each part of CertClass saves a little differently:

• Your booking page saves with your logo as the icon and your business name as the label. Tapping it opens your class list. The screenshots in this guide were taken on the CertClass website, so they show the CertClass icon and name instead.
• The admin dashboard saves with the CertClass icon and opens your dashboard.
• The instructor portal saves with the CertClass icon and opens the instructor's classes.
• If the person is signed out when they tap a dashboard or portal icon, the login page appears first and returns them to the right place after they sign in.

The icon and colors come from settings you have already made. The logo is the one you uploaded in Settings under Branding (see logo, colors, and course categories). On Android the status bar picks up the Primary Color from the Widget page, falling back to your Branding color. On iPhone the status bar stays translucent. If you have not uploaded a logo, the icon falls back to the CertClass logo.

For the sharpest icon:

• Upload a square logo. Phones crop icons to a square, or a rounded square, so a wide logo loses its edges.
• Use a PNG at least 512 by 512 pixels. Small images look blurry once the phone enlarges them.
• Keep the important part of the logo away from the corners, which some Android phones round off.

Students do not need the icon to register; the booking page works the same in a browser. It is most useful for people who come back often: repeat students, an organization that books staff regularly, and your own front desk. Put the steps below on your website or in a confirmation email, along with your booking page link from the Widget page.

1. Open the page in Safari. Use the booking page link, or sign in and open the dashboard or portal.
2. Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up at the bottom of the screen (on iPad it is at the top).
3. Scroll down the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen.
4. Check the name (your business name for the booking page, CertClass for the dashboard and portal). On iOS 26 and later, leave Open as Web App switched on so the icon opens full screen. Tap Add.

The icon lands on the last page of the home screen. Tap and hold it to move it somewhere handier. If you use a different browser on your iPhone, its menu has a Share item that opens the same sheet.

1. Open the page in Chrome.
2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
3. Tap Add to Home screen. On some phones and Chrome versions the menu item is Install app instead. Either one puts the icon on your home screen.
4. Tap Add or Install to confirm.

Whether the saved page opens full screen or inside Chrome depends on the phone and Chrome version. Either way, the icon opens the live page with the same classes and registration.

On Samsung phones using the Samsung Internet browser, the option is in the menu under Add page to, then Home screen.

Admins and instructors follow the same taps after signing in on their phone. Save the page you want to land on: your dashboard at certclass.io/app/your-business for admins, or certclass.io/instructor for instructors. Both save with the CertClass icon. An instructor who saves the portal gets straight to their class list, attendance, and rosters; the portal itself is described in instructors and permissions.

Signing in on the phone is a one-time step. The phone keeps the session, so the next tap on the icon opens the dashboard or portal directly. Signing out from the menu ends the session; the next tap shows the login page again.

• If you change your logo or primary color later, icons that were already saved keep the old look. Remove the icon and add it again to pick up the new one.
• The icon is only a shortcut. Deleting it from a phone does not sign anyone out or change anything in your account.
• Payment links, class detail pages, and the widget behave exactly as they do in a browser. A registration that starts from the saved icon is a normal registration.
• Home screen icons do not send push notifications. Reminders still go out by email and, if you turned it on, SMS.
